As I get the online shop here closer to a real launch, I'm listing these penholder stands that we made here early. Lovingly made with inlaid hand-stained wood and refined until I got the proportions just right for calligraphy penholders and brushes. I will be attending A Show of Hands in Asheville, North Carolina this year and Iampeth in Portland, Oregon, and if anyone is attending those and orders by Monday, June 20 (that's tomorrow!) for ASOH or Friday, June 6 for Iampeth, I'll pack them up and bring them with me and you'll have FREE SHIPPING.
For my Aunt Judy, and all of us, really...
stands for all things,
even for those things that don’t flower,
for everything flowers, from within, of self-blessing;
though sometimes it is necessary
to reteach a thing its loveliness,
to put a hand on its brow
of the flower
and retell it in words and in touch
it is lovely
until it flowers again from within, of self-blessing

We did a really successful and fun event making cards for Viktor&Rolf Flower Bomb perfume at Nordstrom South Coast over Valentine's weekend. Aren't these big black wax seals the coolest? I did traditional and some edgier styles, and was pleasantly surprised at how many people went home with these modern ones. I love doing calligraphy out in public like this, it's such a fun contrast of energy from the solitude of my studio!
Today I'm at Nordstrom South Coast Plaza writing custom Father's Day cards until 6pm. Stop by and say hi! I'll write whatever you'd like for free with the purchase of a men's Gucci fragrance.
We spent last week in Paris. The weather and everything else couldn't have been more beautiful. It was the first warm weather of spring, plants were in flower, and Parisians seemed ecstatic to finally be in the warmth and sun. In every aspect of life, there was an attention to detail and beauty that is rare in most places. The food was delicious and made with the utmost care and artistry. Except that I was missing my kids at home, I never would have wanted to leave.
I had the honor of creating art for a quote from the LA County Public Library. There will be one quote a day from a different calligrapher throughout this week, April 12-18 celebrating National Library Week. This for me was a huge honor as I use the library a lot! You can see all the quotes from the week here. Our libraries are treasure troves and completely free to use! (Except checking out movies on DVD, which is $1 and a great deal!)
Here's where you can follow LA County Library to see all the rest that they have planned!
I'm very happy to report that I got all of my first choices for classes because the conference sold out in two hours this week. I can't wait to see everyone and meet people in person that I kind of know already from online. Tennessee in July! Woohoo! I'll be bringing my folding fan.
Here are the teachers I got : Tuesday Marian Gault, Wednesday Harvest Crittendon, Wednesday night Angela Welch, Thursday Michael Sull, Friday Rosemary Buczek and Saturday Janet Takahashi. I'm looking forward to it! Also looking forward to being close to NC and getting to see some family.
